In 1897, Dr. Matilda Arabella Evans became the first licensed African American female surgeon in South Carolina. She dedicated her life to improving African American healthcare. #BlackHistoryMonth # Hero of the Week: Photographer and Activist Cecil J. Williams Cecil J. Williams is a South Carolina photographer and civil rights activist. He documented the Civil Rights Movement in SC and his work became nationally recognized.
